We know more than 50 types of heart diseases, and the most common type is the CAD or coronary artery disease. It is also known as ischemic heart disease or coronary heart disease. The CAD is characterized by narrowing and hardening of the arteries that cuts off the blood flow to the heart and it can cause a heart attack. Some other types of the heart diseases include:
Arrhythmia – it affects the electrical system of the body and can result in irregularities in the heartbeat rhythm. If the heartbeat is too fast, it is called tachycardia, while if the heartbeat is too slow, it is called bradycardia. The arterial fibrillation is another kind of arrhythmia.
Angina – it is characterized by pain or discomfort in the throat or the chest, usually accompanying shortness of breath.
Atherosclerosis – it is characterized by hardening of your arteries because of plaque buildup.
Congenital heart disease – it is a genetic condition that is able to affect any part of your heart, and also the blood vessels.
Cardiomyopathy – it is also known like congestive heart failure and it happens when the blood is congested in the heart, and that can lead to heart failure.
Endocarditis – it is an inflammatory of the inner lining of the valves and heart, and pericarditis, which is an inflammation of the outer lining of the heart.
Myocarditis – an inflammation of the heart muscle.
Heart attack – also known like MI or myocardial infarction occurs when is blocked the flow of oxygen and blood to any part of the heart.
Stenosis – it happens when one of the valves of the heart narrows. There are different types of stenosis, like mitral valve stenosis and aortic valve.
