We all have grown to believe that our homes are our castles. But many things have changed now and today our homes may be hiding more danger than safety.
We will present you a few things that you thought harmless and you can see all the health problems they are able to provoke. After that you should make the right decision and remove those cancer-causers in order to ensure a very healthy environment for yourself and your family.
1. Air fresheners
Many of the air fresheners contain carcinogens, toxins and volatile organic compounds like phthalate esters in their formulas. NRDC – Natural Resources Defense Council study of 13 most used household air fresheners discovered that most of them contain chemicals that affect the productive development and aggravate asthma.
According one study of the University of Washington by Anne Steinmann, provided in 2008, all air fresheners examined gave off chemicals regulated like hazardous or toxic under federal laws, including the carcinogens without safe exposure level. None of all these chemicals were listed on the labels on the products or Material Safety Data Sheets. Like a replacement, you should try just natural fragrances from many essential oils.
According to one study provided by the U.S. CPSC or Consumer Product Safety Commission, 40% of the candles on the market, inside their wicks contain lead wires. The lead wicks are most commonly contained in the scented candles. The fragrance oils are able to soften the wax, so the producers use the lead to make that wicks firmer.
One candle that has a lead-core wick can release 5 times the amount of lead taken as hazardous for children, and also exceeds the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) pollution standards for the outdoor air, according to CPSC. The exposure to a very high amounts of lead can contribute to behavioral problems, hormone disruption, learning disabilities, and some other problems related to health.
So, if you want to keep your home cozy without risking the health, choose the beeswax candles that have cotton wicks.
3. Art supplies
Some art supplies like rubber cement glues and Epoxy, permanents markers, and acrylic paints and solvents contain chemicals that are linked to organ damage, allergies and cancer.
Our children are especially vulnerable to toxins because of their immature immune system, and higher metabolisms, so we should take additional care for the products that they use.
The conventional shampoos contain many toxic ingredients. Shampoos’ effects are still being examined, and there isn’t any scientific consensus if they can cause cancer.
But, you can use handmade shampoo bars if you want to be part of the safe side.
Most conventional antiperspirants and deodorants contain few ingredients connected to virulent cancers. Since the antiperspirants and deodorants are made to stay on the skin for hours, this permits the absorption of harmful chemicals through it.
6. Shower curtains
The plastic shower curtains can leach harmful chemicals, not just in your bath or shower, but also into your environment, releasing harmful chemicals named volatile organic chemicals (VOCs).
You should reduce the contact with any one of all these products, so you will make your home a castle.
